Honey Bee Observation Hive

The Honey Bee Observation Hive is an indoor hive made from glass where honey bees can be observed without bothering them. The observation hive was awarded to St. Andrew’s Anglican School by The Bee Cause Project through the Whole Kids Foundation Grant.

This project aims to create awareness among students the importance of honey bees to the environment particularly in food production and farming. Aside from that it instills among the children the values that they can learn from honey bees. Values such as responsibility, hard work, dedication, cooperation, and diligence will be achieved.

This initiative was created as part of the school’s effort to be recognized as an EcoSchool. Aside from this, another purpose for the Observation Hive is to collect and sell honey. The proceeds of which will be used to support any projects that the EcoSchool Team will undertake in the future.

In connection with this, the team also initiated the School’s beautification campaign which they named “All Things Bright and Beautiful School Beautification Campaign”. The entire school worked together to make the school as colorful as possible by recycling and painting used tires and using these same colorful tires as plant pots.

St. Andrew’s Anglican School is fortunate to have a hardworking team. Taleah Martin of Grade 11 is the Team Leader; she is assisted by Shamir Rolle also of Grade 11. Carlton Taylor serves as document manager and media officer, Ferneisha Clarke is the Treasurer. Each class is represented as well; Samuel Lewis is Grade 4 representative, Hilliyah Thompson for Grade 5, Azariah Williams for Grade 6, Danelle Gibson for Grade 7, Ceyon Taylor for Grade8, Alden Strachan for Grade9, Jada Brown for Grade10, Jonielle Martin for Grade 11 and Whitney Strachan for Grade 12.

The Team is supervised and advised by Mrs. Portillo, Ms. Norman and Mrs. Hernandez.
